The art of engineering is an art form, a discipline, and a craft.

    It’s not something you learn on a test.

    It takes a lot of hard work, dedication, and time.

    It requires you to think about the big picture and your strengths and weaknesses.

    It teaches you to do things with your brain that will make you better, more productive, and ultimately, better people.

    We’ve all had those moments when we’ve felt like we need to work harder and better, and we’ve thought, “I wish I could do that.”

    But it’s never easy.

    In this post, I’m going to share my favorite tips and tricks for building the best engineering team I’ve ever worked with.


    Don’t ask too much.

    I think this is probably one of the most important things we all can do to build a great engineering team.

    There are so many factors to consider.

    The team needs to be flexible and have a great sense of humor.

    They need to be able to talk with other people in a relaxed, non-threatening manner.

    They also need to have a good sense of who you are, what you want to accomplish, and what kind of people you are.

    The more open-minded you are about your approach to the work, the more you’ll be able get along with others.


    Ask for feedback.

    Sometimes, people just don’t care.

    They want to be liked, or they just want to get feedback on something they’ve been doing.

    I have a lot more fun working with people who are genuinely interested in what I’m doing, and it’s not like I have to give up anything to get that feedback.

    You can get feedback that you can put to good use later on in the team.


    Ask questions.

    You need to ask questions to help people figure out what’s working, what’s not, and why.

    You might be surprised by what you find out.


    Ask people.

    I’m not going to tell you how to do this, but if you can ask people questions about their own lives and work, you’ll find out a lot about the people around you.

    It will help you to see yourself as more than just a machine or an engineer.


    Don ‘t overthink.

    I’ve found that if you don’t overthink, you don ‘t have to.

    In my experience, people who have a strong understanding of their team and their goals are much more effective at helping you to solve problems.


    Be open to learning new things.

    Being open to new ideas and challenges is the first step to creating the best product you can.

    The second is to learn from the mistakes you make, and to learn how to make them better.


    Think about your team.

    This is probably the most common mistake people make when it comes to engineering teams.

    They try to be super-intelligent and get as much information about the team as they can before asking questions.

    But this can be really hard.

    If you ask a question, you may not know what to ask next.

    You may end up asking the wrong questions or thinking the wrong way about the right thing to ask.

    The best advice I can give you is to be a little more open minded.

    You’ll find a lot out there, and you’ll probably be able the right answers.



    This isn’t something you can tell your engineers directly, but I have been incredibly fortunate to work with people that have been amazing to work alongside.

    I know how to get to know people and how to ask good questions.

    I love it when people ask me questions and I find out something new about them that I didn’t know about them.

    It makes me feel like I’m really getting to know them.

    If I ask someone a question I don’t know the answer to, I get a little bit of insight.


    Have fun.

    You have to enjoy the work.

    If your team is fun to work for, it’s going to be great for everyone involved.


    Get in the moment.

    The first step towards creating a great team is to get into the moment and be able take a breath.

    And then, once you get into that moment, you’re going to make the best decisions you can make.


    Have a few questions.

    Some people just want answers.

    Others are looking for a quick way to make some points.

    You want to ask as many questions as you can, so that you’re not thinking about what to say next.

    But if you get really stuck, ask questions and ask them slowly and calmly, to see what comes out.


    Take risks.

    Engineers have to take risks every day to get things done.

    And it can be difficult to make decisions when you’re nervous.

    That’s why you need to keep working on your confidence.

    Take a step back, take a deep breath, and make a decision.

    You never know what’s going in the future.
